Rangers are in talks to sign Everton striker Youssef Chermiti in a permanent deal that could be worth £10 million, according to The Times journalist Paul Joyce.

Rangers had been looking to sign the 21-year-old Portuguese on an initial loan deal, but a permanent move to bring him to the Ibrox club is now on the cards.

Talks are now progressing between both clubs, and Chermiti is expected to be a summer signing for the Light Blues before the transfer deadline on Monday night.

Rangers are ready to continue backing their under-fire manager Russell Martin, and adding the Everton number 9 to his squad could prove to be a game-changing signing.

The Bears take on Celtic tomorrow in their fourth Scottish Premiership game of the 2025-26 campaign, and a defeat is unlikely to lead to the departure of their manager.

Losing 9-1 on aggregate to Club Brugge in the Champions League play-offs has seen the fans call for his head, but the board will be sticking with Martin for the time being from the look of things.

The Rangers board will be aware that Jose Mourinho is available after Fenerbahce parted ways with the Portuguese this week, and replacing their current manager with him could make all the difference.

That is unlikely to happen right now despite the appeal such an appointment has, but Martin needs to start delivering the goods sooner rather than later.

Chermiti is closing in on a deal to join Jayden Meghoma, Lyall Cameron, Djeidi Gassama, Thelo Aasgaard, Manny Fernandez, Nasser Djiga, Max Aarons, Mikey Moore, Joe Rothwell, Oliver Antman and Oscar Cortes as Rangers’ summer signings.

The Everton striker is unlikely to be the only one arriving before the deadline, and the Rangers boss now has to get his team firing on all cylinders in the coming weeks.
