Lazio’s push to land Tim Iroegbunam has reached a dead end, leaving the club weighing alternative midfield options.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports that Everton swiftly rejected an approach, opting to keep the 22-year-old in Merseyside.

Lazio sold Matteo Guendouzi to Fenerbahce at the start of the month, then brought in Kenneth Taylor. Maurizio Sarri has said the Dutchman would have complemented, not replaced, the Frenchman, so the gap remains.

The club also missed out on several targets. Alex Toth went to Bournemouth, Giovanni Fabbian left Bologna for Fiorentina, and Quinten Timber joined Olympique Marseille.

There is movement elsewhere. Edoardo Motta underwent his medical on Monday before completing a transfer from Reggiana, and Daniel Maldini could become the fourth January addition following an agreement with Atalanta.
