Everton host Leicester City in a crucial showdown at Goodison Park this afternoon.
David Moyes has galvanised the Toffees since his return to the club earlier this month. Back-to-back wins for the first time this season have lifted Everton seven points clear of the relegation places.
Last weekend, the Merseysiders battled to an impressive 1-0 win at Brighton, having beaten Tottenham at Goodison Park a week earlier.
Leicester are 17th in the table, a place behind Everton. The Foxes climbed out of the relegation places last week after winning 2-1 at Tottenham. That result ended a seven-game losing run for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side. Leicester can move within three points of Everton with a win this weekend.
David Moyes said in his pre-match press conference that Michael Keane could be considered as an emergency centre-forward. Everton have only Beto as a recognised option after Dominic Calvert-Lewin joined Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti on the sidelines. The forward’s hamstring injury is ‘not as bad as first feared’.
Orel Mangala is also facing a lengthy spell out after sustaining an ACL injury at Brighton. The on-loan midfielder looks likely to have played his last game for Everton.
James Garner’s return boosts the midfield stocks, though Moyes is determined to bring in new faces before the transfer deadline. On Friday, he said he remains ‘confident’ of new signings.
Dwight McNeil is set to see a specialist over the knee injury that has seen the winger already miss two months of action.
Everton predicted XI: Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Lindstrom, Gueye, Garner, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Beto.
Everton host Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday 1st February 2025. Kick-off at Goodison Park is 15:00 GMT.
