Everton saw an injury-time penalty overturned as Manchester United held on to an unlikely draw at Goodison Park.
The Toffees were cruising to a rare victory over United thanks to first-half goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure. Both times United were guilty of hesitation in the penalty area as first Beto fired home from close range after a corner was not cleared and, shortly afterwards, Doucoure jumped above a ball-watching Harry Maguire to head past Andre Onana.
There was little improvement after the break from United and the hosts continued to enjoy the better play, until Ruben Amorim threw on Alejandro Garnacho with around 20 minutes to play. The Argentine was again lively and won the free kick with Bruno Fernandes fired home from the edge of the area.
Minutes later and it was all square, against Garnacho winning the free kick which was floated in and eventually volleyed home by Manuel Ugarte.
Everton thought they had won it at the death when Ashley Young won a penalty in the 93rd minute, but the VAR recommended an on-pitch review and the referee overturned his decision as both teams were forced to settle for honours even.
