Evertton Araújo impresses in training and earns role at Flamengo

Evertton Araújo, 22, has emerged as a bright spot in Flamengo’s stuttering start. According to Globo.com, he has four appearances in 2026, three from the start, and is pushing for a place for the Carioca group finale against Sampaio Corrêa on Saturday.
With Jorginho and De la Cruz short of rhythm, Pulgar inconsistent and Saúl recovering from surgery, he has impressed in training. After the draw with Inter, Filipe Luís said he considered starting him but chose Nico for a specific plan before introducing Evertton. He praised the youngster’s progress and admitted some selections may have been unfair.
Grêmio approached in January, but Flamengo declined to open talks. The club rate him and intend to give him more minutes in 2026. Promoted in 2024, he has 28 official games and two goals.
Born in Volta Redonda, he came through the club’s ranks, briefly tried Botafogo and Cruzeiro, then returned. Strong 2022 Copinha displays led to a loan to Flamengo and a permanent move the next season. He is contracted until December 2028.
He debuted on 12 January 2023 in a 1-0 win over Audax. In April he fractured his fibula in a 3-1 win against Madureira and returned two months and three weeks later for the under-20 Carioca final against Vasco.
Raised in Santa Cruz, he began as a centre forward and, as a teenager, took a barber course to help at home. Flamengo initially offered a four-month deal, then purchased further rights in 2023.
