Brazil beat Panama 6-2 in a World Cup 2026 warm-up at the Maracanã on Sunday, with Flamengo midfielder Evertton Araújo watching on. He spoke of his ambition to play for the Seleção after supporting club-mates in the stands.

"I am very happy to be here to support my team-mates, Alex Sandro, Danilo, Léo Pereira and Lucas Paquetá, and the Brazil national team. I dream of wearing this shirt, but I believe that is still a way off. I am working for it and, God willing, my time will come," he told Lance.

"It is something that motivates me. They are experienced, incredible players who deserve to wear this shirt. I am always learning from them, always listening. God willing, one day my time will come too."

At present, Evertton Araújo has 27 appearances in the 2026 season, with one goal and two assists. Valued by former coach Filipe Luís, he is seeking to establish himself further under Leonardo Jardim.

After the win over Coritiba on Saturday 30, the squad were granted time off during the World Cup break. Before their league return, Flamengo will hold a camp in Portugal with three friendlies against Falkirk, Birmingham and Benfica.

Their next competitive match in 2026 is scheduled for 22 July against Chapecoense, in round 19 of the Brasileirão.
