Mohamed Salah has announced that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and posted an emotional video confirming the news on Tuesday night.
The Egyptian has won every major club trophy during his nine-year stay at Anfield, scoring 255 goals in 435 appearances, putting him third on Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorers chart.
The 33-year-old posted a 129-second video to his social media feeds on Tuesday, which started with a compilation of some of Salah’s greatest moments in a Liverpool shirt.
Sitting in front of his trophy cabinet, littered with major titles and golden boots, Salah says: “Hello, everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, this people, would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club, it’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club.”
Salah then makes an emotional nod to his former teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically died at the age of 28 in a car accident last summer
“We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies, and we fought together through the hardest time in our life,” he says.
He goes on to thank his teammates and the fans, notably voicing his gratitude to the Anfield faithful for ‘standing by him in the toughest times.”
“I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here,” he says. “Especially the teammates, past and present.

“And to the fans… I don’t have enough words: the support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times, it’s something I will never forget. And something I will take with me always.”
Salah did not give any clues as to his next destination, but he has been closely linked with a transfer to the Saudi Pro League in the last two years.
“Leaving is never easy,” he says. “You gave me the best time of my life, I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home to me and to my family.
“Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
Salah still has Champions League and FA Cup glory to play for this season, with the finals on 30 May and 16 May respectively, but as it stands his final game for the club will Liverpool’s final home game of the Premier League season against Brentford on 24 May.
On Instagram, Liverpool FC said: “Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season.
“With plenty still left to play for this season, Salah is firmly focused on trying to achieve the best possible finish to the campaign for Liverpool and, therefore, the time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”
