FC Barcelona took on Rayo Vallecano in La Liga at Spotify Camp Nou and managed to eke out a narrow 1-0 win that saw them extend their lead at the top of La Liga to seven points. It was also a game in which the Catalan club preserved their home league record this season.

It was not an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. Barcelona struggled to get going and the fatigue was visible in most of the players. The only one who still seemed intense with his pressing was Raphinha, who continues to defy logic.

One moment of major concern from a Barcelona perspective came in the first half, when Joan Garcia went down with the same calf issue that had flared up against Newcastle. It looked as though he would have to be substituted.

However, despite Szczesny getting ready to come on, Joan carried on and eventually produced a man-of-the-match performance. After the game, in his post-match interview, the Spaniard was asked about his situation. As quoted by Barca Times on X, he said:

This is exactly what every Barcelona fan wanted to hear. The last thing the Catalan club need right now is for their number-one shot-stopper to miss a run of games, but it does seem as though he is now set for the international break.

Joan has been called up to the Spain squad for the first time in his career. He is unlikely to start, though, which would effectively mean some much-needed rest before he returns to club action in a couple of weeks.

Let us hope this is the last Barcelona hear of Joan Garcia and calf issues, and that he is fully fit and ready to go when club football resumes.
