Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will not be risked for Sunday’s Serie A match away to Venezia.
This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They report that the Turk will instead aim to be in the starting eleven against Bologna next week.
Inter midfielder Calhanoglu picked up a thigh injury during the Supercoppa Italiana.
The 30-year-old was in the starting eleven against both Atalanta in the semifinal, and AC Milan in the final.
However, Calhanoglu was not able to see out the first half of the final against his former side the Rossoneri.
A thigh problem forced the Turkish international off.
These tests confirmed that the 30-year-old has not suffered a serious injury.
The problem was nothing more than a “slight elongation” of Calhanoglu’s adductor muscles.
Therefore, Calhanoglu should be able to make a fairly swift return. This will be similar to the path back to fitness for striker Marcus Thuram after a similar thigh problem of his own.
However, it is not as though Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will want to rush Calhanoglu straight back into action.
There is zero desire to take risks with the Turk’s fitness ahead of a gruelling and potentially decisive fixture list between Serie A and the Champions League.
Therefore, Calhanoglu will not start against Venezia on Sunday. At the absolute most, the former Milan midfielder may be on the bench.
However, reports FCIN, the aim is to have Calhanoglu ready to start Inter’s next match.
The Nerazzurri face Bologna in Serie A next Wednesday.
