Yann Sommer feels that Inter Milan “must win” in their Club World Cup group stage match against Urawa Red Diamonds today.

The 36-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. He also gave his thoughts on newly-arrived Nerazzurri coach Cristian Chivu.

Inter Milan take on Urawa Red Diamonds in the Club World Cup this evening. The Japanese team will be their second opponent of the group stage.

The Nerazzurri drew 1-1 with Mexican side Monterrey in their first match of the group stage.

Therefore, it is clearly important to record a win against Urawa Reds.

Inter’s final match of the group stage, meanwhile, comes against Argentine giants River Plate. That match next week could be a real marquee clash, and decisive for reaching the knockouts.

Inter Milan certainly won’t want to bomb out of the tournament at the group stage.

The knockout rounds will be lucrative on a financial level. And furthermore, an important opportunity to send a message and bounce back after the Champions League final.

Inter keeper Yann Sommer said that against Urawa Reds this evening “we have to win, period.”

“We have to give everything,” added the former Bayern Munich goalkeeper.

“Including today in the final training session and in the final video sessions.”

“We’ll try to play a great match,” Sommer said of facing the Japanese team. “With a lot of energy, as we’ve always tried to do this season.”

Sommer called Urawa Reds “a team with a lot of running.”

“They’re also technically very high quality.”

“We aren’t very familiar with them” Sommer admitted. “But we’re preparing well.”

Sommer noted that Urawa Red Diamonds are “dangerous.”

“But we have to play a great match. Both in terms of technique and energy.”

“Hopefully everything goes well,” Sommer added.

Meanwhile, the Inter goalkeeper stated that new coach Cristian Chivu “has a very strong style of communication with the players.”

And that is the case “even on the pitch.”

Sommer noted that Chivu “was a great player with a lot of experience.”

“There are also some differences in training under him. I’m liking it.”
