The transfer agenda is gathering pace across the Midlands, with Wolves braced for movement, West Brom facing competition for a striker and Aston Villa intent on keeping a key midfielder.

West Brom have had a seven figure offer for Falkirk forward Barney Stewart rejected, The Daily Record reports. Albion are weighing up whether to return with an improved bid. Stewart hit 10 SPL goals in the second half of the campaign and is also being monitored by Celtic, Oxford United and Lincoln City.

At Wolves, Joao Gomes has been heavily linked with Atletico Madrid and a move is edging closer. The club are expected to receive around £39m and talks are understood to be under way. Only a few details are said to remain.

Former winger Chiquinho, now at Alverca after an injury hit spell following a £3m move, is being linked with Sporting CP. Wolves could benefit from a sell on clause if he departs.

Former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira, axed after an awful start, returned to the Premier League at Nottingham Forest and helped them to survival and the Conference League last four. He is reportedly targeting defender Ladislav Krejci and youngster Mateus Mane. Krejci’s loan is set to become permanent after an appearance clause, while Mane’s breakthrough has sustained speculation.

At Villa Park, Unai Emery wants to keep Youri Tielemans, viewing him as central to future plans. The midfielder has impressed since arriving on a free and the club are prepared to resist summer interest.
