Beppe Bergomi feels that Inter Milan have “paid a massive price” for their intense efforts against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Inter Milan had perhaps the high point of their entire season against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The Nerazzurri got a famous win in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie away in Bavaria.
Then, in the second leg, Inter saw out a 2-2 draw. A memorable second half burst saw Inter advance to the semifinals of Europe’s top club competition.
However, those heroics did come at a cost. Inter clearly suffered from some tiredness in the aftermath of their tie against Bayern.
Moreover, Inter lost striker Marcus Thuram to a muscle problem after the match against Bayern.
And that has seen Inter slump to three straight losses. And all without scoring a goal.

Former Inter Milan captain Beppe Bergomi argued that the Nerazzurri “paid a massive price for the tie against Bayern Munich, in terms of physical and nervous energy.”
“It’s true that they came out on top,” he noted. “But in the second leg they scored twice from set piece, while they allowed a lot of chances.”
“In those two matches there were two sliding doors moments. When do you ever see Harry Kane miss a chance like he did in the first leg? Then Thomas Muller had a perfect chance for 2-0 at the San Siro, but shot wide.”
“Inter are the best team in applying their game,” Bergomi argued. “And particularly in the Champions League, they keep their focus high.”
“And after that they’ve faced three strong opponents. So Inter had no margin for error.”
“Therefore, each team has been named with the next match in mind,” Bergomi suggested.
“Is that the right way to think? Higher average squad age, and a lot of injuries.”
