Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is the subject of a significant bid, as per reports.

United parted ways with Greenwood last summer, agreeing to sell their academy product to Olympique de Marseille in a deal worth £26.7 million.

The Englishman instantly cemented himself as a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s squad in the south of France. The 23-year-old scored as many league goals as Ousmane Demble (21), but missed out on the Golden Boot as the Frenchman scored fewer penalties.

According to Fichajes, Greenwood’s performance in Ligue 1 have caught the attention of several top clubs, including Saudi Arabian giants Al-Ahli.

It is claimed that the SPL outfit have submitted a €70m offer for the versatile forward and Marseille could find it difficult to turn down such a proposal.

The French side “would receive only half of the amount offered” as United inserted a 50 per cent sell-on clause into the deal.

This has supposedly complicated the Saudis’ pursuit. Les Phocéens are currently evaluating all options and will make a final decision on the bid “in the coming weeks.”

Further, it is understood that Greenwood is happy at Orange Vélodrome despite suggestions of a rift between him and the club’s coaching staff.

The ex-United star has thrived under De Zerbi and will get the opportunity to show his skill sets in the Champions League with Marseille this season.

Interestingly, the Spanish outlet add that Greenwood has become “one of the most coveted players on the market” and his “future seems far from Marseille.”

The hierarchy at United would be delighted with the development as Greenwood’s exit would see them secure a considerable windfall.

The Red Devils are also in the market for a new striker but their limited budget has made things tricky for Ruben Amorim.
