If Hamza Igamane’s goal against Zambia for Morocco yesterday indicated one thing, it is that the lad has the potential to go all the way in world football and has all the attributes required to be a top class striker. Hamza Igamane in line to net Rangers millions.

What He Had at Rangers

Ibrox Noise, when the Moroccan was at Rangers, was on record as saying that while he lacked decision making, as in his head was down too much, while he wasn’t big enough to be a target man, as in he just simply didn’t have the physique, and while he wasn’t especially quick, as in his pace wasn’t enough to tear through defences, the one thing he absolutely did have was excellent composure on the ball and an outstanding finish. Hamza Igamane does have a lot of the tools required to be a top class striker, and this is the part where the Rangers angle kicks in.

The Departure

Of course we sold the boy for £11m this summer. He wanted to leave as early as January and finally got his wish, the past window. Everyone was happy with that, not quite so much the nature of his departure, he could have held himself a little better, his attitude wasn’t the best.

Lies

Even the biggest proponents of getting rid of Russell Martin agreed with Martin in theory that Igamane should have have come on in Paisley. No matter what, the kid lied about injury and just didn’t want to play. Of course we can understand why you wouldn’t want to play for Martin, you wouldn’t want to get injured and risk a big move, but that’s basically very poor conduct. So even those who cannot stand Martin, which is about 99% of all fans, reluctantly did side with him on that issue if it was true, and we believe it was.

The Deal

That all said, what Rangers did do well was to sell him for a good amount of cash, having signed for only £2m, give or take. We sold for around £11m. We don’t know the full clausal details, but we understand that there is a sell-on clause at Lille. From what some press claim, and this is based on rhetorical source information, that FAR Rabat had around 30% sell-on clause for Igamane. We’re not sure that’s true at all. We don’t have any evidence or reason to believe that there’s any truth behind that claim, but we know that Rangers are very likely to put on their own sell-on clause to Lille.

The Future

And consequently, Igamane could well end up at a top club in a big league, already having done so arguably at Lille, but he could end up at one of the heavy hitters. Going by that goal and going by the talent that we know the lad has, Hamza can go all the way. That could lead to a huge sale by Lille in the future into the many, many millions. £50m, £100m, that is what we’re looking at for a player in a top club in France going to a top Premier League team.

Sell Ons

These sell-ons are not unlikely. Not even that long ago, Celtic secured a big sell-on themselves with Virgil van Dijk, the £75m signing by Liverpool from Southampton. And of course that was worth every penny, but the point is that Celtic got 10% of that. They got £7.5m out of that. Igamane has every chance of being a similar kind of fee in the future if he continues this progress, and at his age there’s every chance he will. So it could just be that Rangers will make an absolute killing by the future sale of Igamane from Lille to some heavy hitting club. We could be in the £100m range. Hamza Igamane in line to net Rangers millions. Time will tell on that one.
