Sky Sports pundit David Prutton spoke exclusively to Football League World about the future of Blackburn Rovers' Tyrhys Dolan

Sky Sports Pundit David Prutton believes Tyrhys Dolan should seriously consider a move to one of the old firm clubs, Celtic or Rangers, as the Scottish giants reportedly monitor the winger's situation at Blackburn Rovers closely.

The highly-rated attacker's future at Ewood Park has been up in the air for some time, with his contract set to expire next month. It is widely reported that Blackburn have tried extensively to tie Dolan down to fresh terms, but no agreement has yet been reached and the 23-year-old is believed to be considering his options following the conclusion of the campaign.

The former England U-20 international has been a key performer for Rovers in recent years since signing in 2020, amassing over 210 appearances for the Lancashire outfit across all competitions.

Now, recent reports have claimed that Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers are both interested in Dolan, a development which could threaten to sway the winger away from any potential renewal with John Eustace's side.

Moving north of the border would allow Dolan the opportunity to compete for silverware and experience European football, something that is only really realistic for an English player in the Premier League.

It could be difficult for Dolan to say no to an advance from either Celtic or Rangers, and Sky Sports pundit David Prutton believes the wide-man must give those moves "serious thought."

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Prutton was full of praise for Dolan and believes a move to one of Scotland's biggest clubs would definitely be an attractive proposition.

"I think he’s a good player Tyrhys, always lively, always looks like he’s capable of making something happen," said Prutton.

"The expectation of him when he went to Blackburn was not directly related to what his output then became, because i think they thought he was a bit of a slow burner and one for the future, but he very much got stuck in and was a big part of a squad that was very competitive in the last few championship seasons.

"I think the frustration with them comes with falling away as and when it mattered i.e. very early Spring which meant that at times, barring the final day just now, at times by the time it came to the last knockings they were just firmly and constantly in mid table.

"So I think yeah on a free, or compensation given the age of the player potentially, but Christ when one of those two come knocking you’ve got to give it some serious thought."

Tyrhys Dolan could move onto bigger things with an Old Firm transfer

While some might view a move to the Scottish Premiership as a sideways step from the Championship, the reality is that both Celtic and Rangers offer something Blackburn haven't in decades - European football and the chance to win domestic trophies consistently.

Dolan's pace and creativity will definitely suit the attack-minded approaches of both teams, where they allow their wide players freedom to express themselves on the pitch. With seven goals and six assists in the Championship this season, it's hard to see past an increase in this if he made the switch.

With Blackburn failing to secure the playoffs this season, the time might be right for Dolan to seek new pastures, and as Prutton put it, when clubs like Celtic and Rangers come calling, it would be hard for anyone not to give it "serious thought".
