The Sky Blues' forward was being looked at by the two Premier League sides this winter.

Haji Wright may be tempted to stay at Coventry City this summer, following interest in him in January from Premier League sides Ipswich Town and Leicester City, believes Sky Sports' Don Goodman.

The American forward has proven himself to be worth every record-breaking penny that the Sky Blues spent on him two summers ago. He had a slow start to life with Coventry, but he got better and better as the season went on.

The injury that he suffered earlier in the season certainly set his progress back a bit, but that didn't stop other clubs seeing the potential. Ipswich and Leicester were reportedly interested in the £7.7 million man back in the winter, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

This interest never amounted to anything, but Bailey said that there was a chance that Coventry could have at least doubled their investment in him had they decided to sell.

Coventry could be more of an attractive option than Ipswich or Leicester

Had either top flight team managed to acquire Wright, it would have been a big gamble given his health status, according to Goodman, who spoke exclusively to Football League World.

Even though those two former suitors have Premier League status behind them now, relegation back to the second tier beckons. Because of this, Goodman thinks that the forward could see his best route to the Premier League being with his current club.

"I think had Leicester or Ipswich signed Haji Wright in January it would have been a huge leap of faith because he was injured at that point and he didn't return to Coventry's team until 1st March. But I can certainly understand why teams like that would be interested in him," the Sky Sports pundit said.

"It remains to be seen what will happen. It looks likely that Leicester and Ipswich will be Championship teams next season. Of the two, you've got to say that Ipswich look the more stable, but he's already at an ambitious, really, really good club who, I should imagine, if they don't get promoted via the play-offs this summer, will have a real good go next season.

"Would it be better for Haji Wright to remain at Coventry? That's the question, but we'll only find out when the season finishes."

Haji Wright shouldn't push for any moves away soon

With the form that Frank Lampard's side have been in, they have as good a chance as any of the teams vying to finish in the play-off places to be the ones who are victorious at Wembley. They came so close a couple of seasons ago before losing out to Luton Town, but look where the Hatters are now - maybe it wasn't such a bad thing.

Their recent record at the home of English football isn't great, but you can certainly see a scenario where City take one of Ipswich, Leicester or Southampton's spots in the Premier League for next season. If that point comes, staying at Coventry would be the best thing that has happened to Wright. And even if it doesn't, the club is still set on a very upwards trajectory.
