When did you first realise he was a special talent? “It became clear very early. He had natural qualities that were above average, especially his technical ability, speed and confidence with the ball. He always wanted to improve.”
Did you see him develop quickly? “Yes. He developed step by step through hard work. Every season, he became more mature, both technically and mentally.”
What was he like to coach? “He was a pleasure to coach. He listened carefully, accepted advice and always wanted to progress. He had a great mentality and never stopped working.”
Did you ever speak with him about his dreams or ambitions? “Yes. Like many young players, he dreamed of playing at the highest level in Europe. He always believed in his abilities and was ready to make sacrifices to achieve his goals.”
Did he have any idols or role models he wanted to copy? “Like many young African players, he admired several top footballers, but above all he wanted to develop his own style and become the best version of himself.”
What makes him stand out from other young players you have worked with? “His mentality. Talent is important, but his discipline, determination and willingness to learn made him different. He always wanted to improve.”
Are you surprised by how quickly he has become a star, playing in a World Cup and wanted by the best clubs in Europe? “I am proud, but not surprised. When you combine talent, hard work and the right mentality, great things can happen. He has earned everything through his commitment.”
Do you think he has everything it takes to succeed at a club like Liverpool? “Yes, I believe he has the qualities to succeed at the highest level. Liverpool is a demanding club, but Yan has the mentality, work ethic and football qualities to continue developing there.”
If you had one piece of advice or a message for him for his future, what would it be? “I would tell him to stay humble, continue working hard every day, listen to experienced people around him and never forget where he comes from. The journey is just beginning, and I believe his best years are still ahead of him.”
