Chelsea’s January has taken a while to get going, but it seems moves are now being made.

Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC has just followed up on his report from last week that striker David Datro Fofana was going to be recalled from his loan spell in the Turkish Super Lig.

The forward has been scoring well at Fatih Karagumruk, and this seems like the moment to cash in. Kinsella’s Tweet claims there is “significant interest” from “England and Europe” in the striker, who was signed for €12m back in January 2023.

He’s had a few loans across Europe since then, and clearly this is the moment in his contract to get maximum value for him. While he’s not really taken off, we should be able to get back more than we paid. He’s shown enough potential in front of goal for all these teams to be interested.

Nizaar Kinsella reports on the DDF recall.

Of course, bringing DDF back and selling him on not only generates some immediate cash flow and a positive balance for the window. It also frees up one of our foreign loan slots, which are very precious in this player trading model.

It will allow us to potentially loan someone with more value to be gained playing in Europe – perhaps Tyrique George for example – with a view to a summer sale.

Also potentially on the move this month is Kendry Paez, whose loan to Strasbourg has not gone as planned. He needs a fresh start, the sooner the better. It sounds like he’ll get one, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea’s problems were in attack against Brentford, but they’re moving in fast on a new defender, with Jeremy Jacquet likely to come to Stamford Bridge sooner rather than later.
