David Prutton has urged Burnley to sign Harrison Reed from Fulham.
Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has urged newly-promoted Burnley to sign Harrison Reed from Fulham this summer, as the Clarets look to bolster thier squad for a return to the Premier League.
Scott Parker's side secured a top flight return at the first time of asking on Easter Monday, beating promotion rivals Sheffield United 2-1 at Turf Moor, which sent both themselves and Leeds United up.
Now officially a Premier League side next season, the Clarets are eyeing up a move for out-of-favour Fulham midfielder Reed this summer, according to GiveMeSport.
The man dubbed the 'Ginger Iniesta' has only featured a handful of times for the London club this season, which has seen Parker keen on reuniting with his former player, who featured 56 times in the league for Fulham during the 44-year-old's tenure at Craven Cottage.
With more football potentially on the cards should he move on, a move for the 30-year-old could suit all parties, as Burnley gear up to try and avoid the drop next season.
In an exclusive interview with Football League World, former Nottingham Forest midfielder and Sky Sports pundit David Prutton was quizzed on whether he believes Burnley should pursue the signing of Reed from Fulham after reports emerged of their interest.
"A reunion with Scott Parker? Yeah, I could see that," Prutton said.
"[It] all depends on the Josh Brownhill situation, who is an exceptional member of that squad.
"If the wages fit and the finances work, I could see him [Reed] being a very solid part of it given his Premier League pedigree, because the first port of call is consolidation completely for this side.
"From what I've heard, [he is a] good teammate, [a] low-maintenance member of the group. As I said, if finances fit, and that's where they're looking, that'll work."
Whilst it might be all sunshine and rainbows currently at Turf Moor, the Clarets will know that they've got a tough task on their hands to avoid the drop next season.
Following their excellent title win two years ago, many supporters may have thought that Vincent Kompany could keep the club in the top flight with his revolutionized Burnley squad. However, this was far from the case, as they were comfortably relegated.
Now, after a remarkable season under Parker with the best defensive record in Championship history, barring some dramatic capitulation at the back, it's clear the Lancashire club has an excellent spine of quality players.
Players such as CJ Egan-Riley, Josh Brownhill, James Trafford, and Maxime Esteve have been the backbone of Burnley's success this season, and it's essential that they retain most, if not all, of these key names for next season's attempt to beat the drop.
Their business could need just a few quality additions in some positions, which bring Premier League experience to a squad which has a very exciting core of players.
Reed may not be the most exciting signing in the world, but he's a player that Parker has worked with before at Fulham, and brings a plethora of experience to the squad which could make a crucial difference.
