According to Glorioso 1904, Fábio Veríssimo has been appointed by the Portuguese Football Federation’s refereeing committee to take charge of Porto v Benfica in the Taça de Portugal.
Pedro Martins and Hugo Marques will be the assistant referees, with Miguel Nogueira as fourth official. Luís Ferreira is the VAR and Nuno Eiras the AVAR.
Veríssimo was at the centre of controversy during Porto v Braga earlier this season, under the leadership of André Villas-Boas. A report, never denied by Porto, said a television was placed in the officials’ dressing room at half-time, could not be turned off, and showed incidents where the club felt wronged.
His record when overseeing Benfica reads 39 matches, with 25 wins, six draws and eight defeats. In those games, Benfica scored 73 and conceded 29.
The last Benfica match he refereed was the fourth-round tie against Atlético on 25 November 2025. It ended 2-0 to Benfica, with goals from Richard Ríos and Vangelis Pavlidis.
The clássico is scheduled for Wednesday, 14 January 2026, kicking off at 20:45 at Estádio do Dragão. The tie is in the quarter-finals of the Taça de Portugal Generali Tranquilidade and will be broadcast on RTP 1.
