Barcelona Maintain Interest in Marcus Rashford Amid Uncertain United Future

Dream Move Still on the Table

Marcus Rashford’s future is once again under the microscope. After a turbulent season with Manchester United — including a loan spell at Aston Villa — speculation surrounding the England forward’s next steps has intensified. According to Fabrizio Romano, who provided the update via his YouTube channel, Rashford is still firmly on Barcelona’s radar.

“Internally at Barcelona they still believe that Marcus Rashford could be an option for the summer transfer window,” Romano revealed. “They believe at Barcelona that Rashford might be available on the market.”

Despite previous setbacks, including Financial Fair Play (FFP) limitations in January, Barcelona’s admiration remains strong. Romano added, “They believe at Barcelona that Rashford could be a good solution because he can play as a No 9 and play on the wing, so he can help in several positions.”

Financial Constraints and Tactical Flexibility

Barcelona’s financial landscape continues to define their transfer ambitions. Romano explained the collapsed January move: “They already wanted Rashford in January, it didn’t happen because Ansu Fati didn’t leave and so in terms of FFP it was not possible to balance the deal.”

Yet interest has not faded. Rashford remains a player who can offer positional flexibility and a goal threat. With 134 goals across all competitions for United, he remains one of England’s most recognisable attacking talents. Romano emphasised: “He’s a player appreciated by those at Barcelona.”

The summer window could reignite talks, especially if Rashford does not remain at Aston Villa. Romano concluded: “If Rashford is not staying at Aston Villa we will see what happens. He’s one of the options under consideration at Barcelona… one of the names being mentioned internally at Barcelona is for sure Marcus Rashford.”

United’s Stance and Rashford’s Value

While Barcelona’s interest is clear, Manchester United’s asking price may yet prove to be a stumbling block. Reports suggest United value Rashford at around €35 million — a figure below his current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €53.6m. Even so, the idea of a deal remains “alive”, Romano claimed, though it would depend on “FFP, on deal conditions, on more clubs being keen on the player and on what he decides to do.”

For United, the Rashford dilemma sits at a crossroads. A player once central to their identity is now a source of speculation. Much will rest on the forward’s ambitions and whether the new regime at Old Trafford sees a future for him.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Manchester United fans, the idea of Rashford leaving the club is as emotional as it is tactical. Raised at Carrington, the 26-year-old has long embodied the spirit of youth promotion at Old Trafford. But in recent months, that connection has frayed. A fall-out with Ruben Amorim, inconsistent performances, and the shadow of a high wage bill have all contributed to growing uncertainty.

His loan spell at Aston Villa hinted at rejuvenation — his pace and directness suited Unai Emery’s side well — but injury halted his momentum. Now, the idea of Barcelona becoming a reality feels bittersweet. Yes, it’s his dream, and fans won’t begrudge him chasing that. But questions linger: are United selling too soon? Or is it time to cut ties and reinvest?

From a squad-building perspective, €35 million feels light. Rashford, at his best, is a match-winner, and in the right environment, he could return to form. But if the club no longer sees him as central to its future, then ensuring his next step is handled with clarity and care is essential. United can’t afford another Sancho-style narrative.

For now, Barcelona lurk. And Old Trafford waits for its next move.
