A move for Anthony Gordon is now on after Fabrizio Romano's latest post.

Last summer's Alexander Isak saga was relentless for Liverpool.

For a large majority of the window Isak dominated the headlines. He made it clear to Newcastle United he wanted to go. He made it clear he wanted to join Liverpool.

It just took a bit of time, and the offer of a huge amount of money to convince Newcastle to sell him.

The way the deal was conducted and how it played out in the media will be a lesson learned for everyone. But ultimately it won't deter Liverpool from trying to sign Newcastle players again.

In fact, Richard Hughes may be coming for yet another Newcastle player this summer. With the way things are going Liverpool's next Isak transfer is becoming more and more obvious and it's clear that it's Gordon.

Liverpool need wingers and they need speed in their current attack. The Reds haven't really replaced Luis Diaz since he left for Bayern Munich, and they also haven't really added any wingers of genuine quality since Richard Hughes arrived at the club.

But that could be changing.

Hughes' first winger target in the summer of 2024 was Anthony Gordon. Liverpool came close to signing the winger at the time but ultimately Newcastle decided to sell Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson instead, in order to meet the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Last summer, Liverpool wanted to sign a winger but they held fire. Isak was the priority. They could have signed other wingers but they didn't.

Perhaps there was a reason for that. Maybe, they have been waiting all along to return to Gordon in the summer of 2026.

And it looks like the wait was worth it because Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Gordon could be on the move this summer with Newcastle United needing another big sale.

“According to my info, there is a possibility Newcastle sell one or two top players in the summer transfer window. It’s about Financial Fair Play, it’s about the cost of the squad, so they have to consider exits; it could be one, could be two, based on opportunities, proposals, and what players want to do,” Romano spoke on his official YouTube channel.

“Anthony Gordon has chances to leave Newcastle in the summer transfer window. There is a lot of interest also in Sandro Tonali, and let’s see what happens with Bruno Guimaraes. I’m not saying that Newcastle are going to sell all these players, that’s not the case. Newcastle will try to keep as many as possible.

“But, at the moment, there is a possibility Anthony Gordon could be on his way out of Newcastle in case of a big proposal.”

If that's true, and given Liverpool's need to add someone exactly of Gordon's profile than this is a transfer that is well and truly on.

Romano's update confirms it. The long sought after Liverpool target could become a hot topic of conversation.

And that could mean another long summer, similar to that of the Isak saga could be upon the Reds.
