In a recent interview, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Manchester United are eyeing a move for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba. Romano said, “Man United I can guarantee that even in their internal talks at the club have not stopped discussing the name of Carlos Baleba, because Baleba is still seen as an ideal solution by Ruben Amorim and people at the club.
“Baleba is super appreciated by Man United. January move is seen as unlikely but any moment, January or the summer, If Brighton opens the door to an exit for Baleba, Man United remain absolutely interested. Man United remain in contact with people close to the player.”
Baleba is having a solid campaign at Brighton as he has put in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The Cameroonian midfield ace has made 19 appearances for the Seagulls this season across all competitions.

The 21-year-old has anchored the midfield with conviction and deserves credit for making 18 tackles, nine blocks, 15 interceptions and 18 clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball well from midfield based on his pass success rate of 85.3% in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).
Baleba is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
The Cameroon international is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Man United.
Baleba would no doubt enhance the quality of Ruben Amorim’s midfield department. He is good enough to serve as an ideal long-term successor to Casemiro at the Mancunian club. The Cameroonian talent would even help the Red Devils compete for a major trophy in the coming years.
At 21, Baleba has got the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, he would be an excellent fit for Man United’s needs in the long run.
