According to Fabrizio Romano, Leeds United have joined the chase for Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemović, with Sunderland and Bournemouth making recent enquiries.

Sunderland want to add another central defender to Régis Le Bris’ squad this summer and have been linked with the 23-year-old repeatedly. The latest update does not indicate a formal bid, but it suggests the Black Cats are exploring a move.

Any agreement could be complicated by Juventus’ position. The Italian club retained a 50 per cent sell-on clause when Muharemović joined Sassuolo, which would entitle them to half of any fee and could aid a push to bring him back to Turin.

Muharemović made 32 appearances for Sassuolo last season, 31 in Serie A, scoring twice. The left-footed centre-back is under contract until 2031 and features for Bosnia and Herzegovina at senior level.

Leeds’ involvement increases competition as Sunderland assess defensive targets in this window. Bournemouth are also in the mix, and the situation is developing.
