Liverpool contract latest: Konate close, Szoboszlai talks ongoing

On his latest YouTube update, Fabrizio Romano provided a detailed breakdown of Liverpool’s current contract discussions, focusing on Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Romano confirmed that progress between Liverpool and Konate is significant and close to completion. He referenced earlier reporting and reiterated, “I told you negotiations between Ibou [Konate] and Liverpool are moving to the final stages are advancing very well.”

He added clarity on the current position, saying, “The reality is that the agreement is almost done on the salary. So in terms of numbers, Konate, Liverpool, the agreement is okay.” This indicates that the core financial structure is already aligned.

However, two elements remain under discussion. Romano explained, “What’s needed now to clarify is two points. The length of the contract and they’re discussing this point, but this is not going to be a dealbreaker.” He also highlighted performance-related aspects, stating, “Then there is important the bonuses uh on top of this salary and this is what they are discussing how to activate these bonuses, what kind of bonuses, the add-ons to be included in the contract.”

The defender’s own comments have reinforced optimism. Romano noted, “Ibou Konate speaks in public and says yes it’s true we are closer.” He then emphasised the broader significance for the club, adding, “To see the player going public and speaking like that I think is the best news possible obviously for Liverpool.”

Szoboszlai situation less advanced

In contrast, discussions with Szoboszlai are progressing at a slower pace. Romano highlighted the midfielder’s own words, explaining, “Dominik says there is no real progress at the moment on my contract. I keep going. I’m happy here. My family is happy here. The contract runs until 2028.”

This reflects a more measured situation, with no immediate urgency from the player’s perspective. Romano reinforced that interpretation, saying, “So the message from Szoboszlai is I know it’s not a urgent situation, but at the moment there is no agreement over new deal.”

Despite that, negotiations are ongoing behind the scenes. Romano clarified, “The negotiation is still ongoing between shoe and Liverpool. So it’s not off, it’s not far away.” He further underlined the tone of talks, stating, “According to my information the conversation is quite positive but in terms of okay let’s advance to final stages as Liverpool did with Konate there is still some work to do.”

Positive outlook but work remains

Romano was careful to avoid negative framing around Szoboszlai’s situation. He said, “It’s not that far it’s not that negative the situation about the new contract of Dominik Szoboszlai but of course there is still work needed.” He concluded this section with a clear message, “For sure the negotiation is still on. So I would not spread negative messages around this story.”

Liverpool focus remains on retention

The key takeaway is that Liverpool are making tangible progress on securing Konate’s future, with only structural details left to resolve. Szoboszlai’s situation is less advanced but remains active and positive in tone.

Both cases underline a clear strategy, retain core players while maintaining controlled negotiations. As Romano indicated, developments are ongoing, and further updates are expected as discussions continue.
