Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed where reported Manchester United target Gianluigi Donnarumma is most likely to end up, following a big development on his future.
United could potentially bring in a new goalkeeper before the close of the summer transfer window, amidst doubts over Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.
Onana and Bayindir made numerous high-profile mistakes last term that dearly cost United in games. There is an overwhelming acceptance that neither represents the long-term solution for United between the sticks and the club may need to dip into the market for new faces in the goalkeeping department.
One shot-stopper whose name keeps popping up is Donnarumma.
He enjoyed a brilliant 2024/25 season with PSG, helping the Ligue 1 giants to a historical treble. In the Champions League in particular, Donnarumma came up with a string of fine performances that helped the club get over the line.
However, he has been unable to agree terms with PSG over a fresh contract. His current terms expire next summer and having signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille, it looks like Donnarumma’s time in the French capital has come to an end.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that PSG are prepared to sanction Donnarumma’s sale after United enquired about him earlier this summer.
It’s believed that there have been direct meetings between the Italy international’s camp and United, with Ruben Amorim a big admirer of the player.
Now, a major development has emerged, potentially bringing Donnarumma a step closer to joining United.
Romano has confirmed that Donnarumma has been left out PSG’s squad for the upcoming Super Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
The transfer expert wrote on X, “Paris Saint-Germain exclude Gigio Donnarumma from their squad for UEFA Super Cup.”
“Donnarumma will not sign new deal at PSG, there’s no agreement and he will 100% leave the club, this summer or in 2026 as free agent.”
“Gigio’s camp feel it’s unfair situation for the GK.”
In a subsequent post, Romano named Donnarumma’s most likely transfer destination, and it’s good news for United.
“Gigio Donnarumma will leave Paris St Germain for sure, most likely this or eventually next summer.”
“The relationship is completely broken after club decide to exclude Gigio from their squad for Super Cup.”
“Understand Premier League is the most likely destination.”
The 26-year-old made 40 appearances across all competitions last term and kept 11 clean sheets in that period.
