There is a lot of time left for FC Barcelona before the summer transfer window closes. However, it still remains vital for the Catalan giants to wrap up ongoing operations, such as the one involving Julian Alvarez, as soon as possible to avoid unwanted complications.

The Atletico Madrid star, who previously spoke up publicly about wanting a transfer this summer, remains occupied with the FIFA World Cup right now as Argentina has advanced to the quarterfinals already. However, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently provided an update on Alvarez’s situation.

In a recent Youtube video, Romano explained that the situation concerning Alvarez and Barça remains stalled for now because there are two different sides to consider. The first is the player’s position, and the other is the relationship between the two clubs.

As per Romano, Alvarez’s words following Argentina’s recent win over Egypt were much more tame as compared to his previous public statements. In the most recent interview, however, the Atletico Madrid star clarified that he is fully focused on the World Cup for now and will resolve his future afterwards.

The player’s position, as per the Italian journalist, remains focused on Barça and he is still hoping to join La Blaugrana this summer. Moreover, Romano clarified that there is already an agreement in place between the club and the player as it stands.

Unfortunately, he also said that the current relationship between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid remains cold and that is why little progress has been made on that front. If that issue is resolved somehow, it would pave the way for much smoother negotiations.

For now, however, it seems that there is no urgency to resolve this matter before the end of the summer. After all, things will likely automatically pick up the pace once the ongoing World Cup concludes, and perhaps that is when Barça will look to accelerate their pursuit of the player as they have done for other operations.
