As per Fabrizio Romano, Saudi club Al Shabab are in pole position to sign Southampton target Glen Kamara.
Southampton's interest in Rennes midfielder Glen Kamara is not hidden. In fact, the 29-year-old was discussed among the earliest squad additions under boss Ivan Juric.
Further, Gronbaek's arrival sparked rumours that Kamara could also follow his Rennes teammate to St. Mary's. But, until now, the player continues to feature in Ligue 1.
Call it Southampton's inability to strike agreements or serious interest in the pivot from other clubs, a deal is still far. Sadly, if it is to continue this way, Kamara might be swopped away from Southampton's reach.
This is per Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who recently hinted about serious Saudi interest in Kamara. In his words: "Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab are in advanced talks to sign Glen Kamara as new midfielder. Negotiations underway with Rennes."
Undoubtedly, it is Kamara's acclimatization to different scenarios upon which Al Shabab is ready to bank. Having had experience in English, Scottish as well as French football, it is Kamara's adaptability that has been demanded by Southampton as well.
Despite having two pivots, Flynn Downes and Ugochukwu, Southampton's need for Kamara is real.
Undoubtedly, Downes was one of the best midfielders under Russell Martin but his recent games have been a shadow of his former self. In addition, relying solely on a 20-year-old prodigy Ugochukwu wouldn't be wise enough.
Thankfully, for the Saints, there is still some hope left.
Just in, per Fabrizio Romano, Rennes has parted ways with former boss Jorge Sampaoli. That leaves the future of exit names such as Glen Kamara's uncertain.
For Southampton, this might have come as fate's way for opening new opportunities in the Kamara deal. With ambiguities all around, the Saints should fancy their chances to complete an agreement with the pivot.
Now, it all depends on Southampton's negotiation techniques. The Saints should go all in for him, believing a move here could have many headaches resolved.
