Hardly any other position at FC Bayern caused as much discussion in 2025 as the midfield. Between stable pillars, promising talents and position changes, it was an exciting picture. Who stood out the most from your point of view?
After the defense, we now turn our attention to the center. Here, too, you can vote – and explain in the comments who impressed you over the course of the calendar year.
Joshua Kimmich remained at the heart of Bayern’s midfield in 2025. The 30-year-old impressed as a pace-setter, took on responsibility and was a fixture for long stretches. After his contract extension in March, it was clear that there was no way around Kimmich in sporting terms. Despite intense competition and system-related adjustments, he retained his role as a fixture in the center. In contrast to Julian Nagelsmann with the national team, Vincent Kompany continuously relied on Kimmich in midfield.
Aleksandar Pavlovic fought his way back despite repeated injury setbacks and established himself as a reliable second six-man alongside Kimmich over the course of the year. His style of play was characterised by calmness, overview and passing security. Pavlovic acted calmly but effectively – and thus confirmed the trust placed in him.
Leon Goretzka was considered a candidate for sale in the summer of 2024 and a departure from Munich seemed likely. However, the 30-year-old fought his way back impressively. He became a regular again, celebrated his comeback in the national team and found his feet in the sport. Although his influence waned again as the year progressed, Goretzka remained one of the key squad options – something that few still believed him capable of.

Tom Bischof showed decent performances after his summer transfer and hinted at his potential in many games. The 20-year-old mostly came off the bench at first, but impressed with his overview, passing ability and intelligence. Even if he helped out on the flanks at times, he presented himself as a strong squad option. His development gives hope for more.
João Palhinha was also part of the squad until the summer, but was never able to establish himself in the starting eleven under Vincent Kompany. Despite his high transfer fee, he fell short of expectations. He has since been loaned out to Tottenham – a return to Munich is considered unlikely, especially as Spurs are likely to want to exercise their option to buy him.
Munich’s midfield in 2025 was characterised by continuity, competition and character. Kimmich delivered as usual, Pavlović established himself despite setbacks, Goretzka made an impressive return and Bischof gained valuable match practice. He is likely to make more appearances soon, even in his traditional position.
But who was your player of the year in this key position? Vote now – and feel free to give your reasons in the comments.
