FC Bayern continue to press ahead with their squad planning: it is now clear that another star will be leaving the record champions after the season
The Munich club have officially announced that Rafael Guerreiro’s contract, which expires in the summer, will not be extended, bringing the 32-year-old’s chapter at Säbener Straße to an end after two years
The Portuguese international joined FC Bayern on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023 and won important titles with the club during this time. In addition to the German championship, the flexible all-rounder also won the Super Cup
Sporting director Max Eberl commented in detail on the veteran’s departure in the press release and found words of appreciation: „We would like to thank Rapha for the time we spent together: Rapha was always reliable on the pitch, and characters like him enrich every dressing room. The discussions with him were good, trusting and understanding. Now we are concentrating with him on our goals until the summer – together we want to achieve a lot more,“ said Eberl
The decision does not come as a complete surprise. There had already been indications in recent monthsthat Guerreiro would no longer play a central role in Munich’s long-term plans. FC Bayern is increasingly focusing on rejuvenating the squad and clearly defining roles within the team
Guerreiro has played a total of 89 competitive matches for FC Bayern to date, scoring twelve goals and assisting a further eight. His great strength lay above all in his flexibility: in addition to playing at full-back, he was also regularly deployed in central midfield

The Portuguese also has a wealth of international experience, having played 65 games for the national team and won the 2016 European Championship and the 2019 Nations League with Portugal
For FC Bayern, his departure represents a further step in the personnel shake-up. It has been clear for some time that Leon Goretzka’s expiring contract will not be extended and that the international will also leave Munich in the summer
Guerreiro is now also facing a new challenge. Due to his experience and versatility, the 32-year-old is likely to remain in demand on the international transfer market.
