Leeds boss Daniel Farke has hailed the mentality of his team after a spirited goalless draw at Crystal Palace.

Farke’s side remain three points above the relegation places after a disciplined defensive performance earned a result at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

Leeds squandered a chance to take the lead when Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed from the spot and their afternoon went from bad to worse moments later, with Gabriel Gudmundsson sent off in first-half stoppage time.

Referee Thomas Bramall initially appeared to have forgotten Gudmundsson had already been cautioned after a foul on Ismaila Sarr, showing an initial yellow card, before being reminded by the Palace players and fourth official of the earlier card. He eventually brandished a red, but Leeds dug in to record a clean sheet.

According to the BBC, the visitors are the only team on record (since 2003-04) to have a player sent off in the first half and not concede a single shot on target.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day at full-time, Farke spoke of the belief he has in the group as Leeds battle to beat the drop.

“I would trust my lads with my life. We are not perfect, but the mentality in the dressing room is second to none.

“In the circumstances, in a difficult away game, we defended the whole time and we didn’t give any chances away. I think in the end, we had a higher expected goals than our opponents. Fantastic spirit, defending, clean sheet, and a point away.”
