Manchester City are in the process of weighing up the next destination for new signing Sverre Nypan to continue his development at the top of the European game.

The teenage midfielder completed his switch to the Etihad Stadium earlier this month, with Manchester City acting swiftly to beat off growing competition from within the Premier League for one of Scandinavia’s most promising talents.

Nypan, who turned 18 late last year, has already made a significant impression in the senior game with Rosenborg having amassed 70 senior appearances to date, and City view a carefully managed loan pathway as key to unlocking his potential at the elite level.

City Football Group’s infrastructure is expected to play a vital role in that process, with Girona considered one of the most natural landing spots for Sverre Nypan’s first season away from the Etihad Stadium.

The La Liga side have already benefited from the development of several young City-affiliated players in recent seasons, including the likes of Yan Couto and Savinho, while Girona also offer the added bonus of regular top-flight football with continental exposure.

Manchester City will want to ensure Nypan receives consistent minutes at a level that bridges the gap between Norwegian football and the Premier League, and with such a strategy in place, the player’s circle have now confirmed interest has surged across multiple European markets.

Speaking during a new interview with Norwegian outlet Nettavisen, as translated and relayed by the Manchester Evening News, Sverre Nypan’s father Arne has offered insight into the process being undertaken by all involved to secure the player a loan club for the new season.

“It’s part of the plan, and it’s always been that way. We’re going to find a middle ground between the Eliteserien and the Premier League, and that’s been a key element in how we intend to do it,” Arne Nypan explained.

The midfielder’s father continued, “We will make arrangements for him to have the best conditions to take new steps. Girona is a huge club and could be a very, very good solution since they are part of the City structure.

“At the same time, there are seven or eight clubs that have signed up and are very eager. We still haven’t decided, there are some small things left, but it’s just around the corner.”

City are due to be involved in every stage of loan discussions, with a final decision expected before the start of the new campaign as pre-season fixtures begin to shape squad planning across Europe.

While Girona may present the clearest route in terms of continuity and tactical synergy, Manchester City are also believed to be open to placements in other top-five leagues – provided the right development guarantees are met.

City officials have long admired Sverre Nypan’s technical skill set and maturity, and there is optimism internally that he could become a first-team contender within two to three seasons, following a similar track to the likes of James McAtee or James Trafford.

As such, Nypan’s next destination could be pivotal in determining the pace of that transition. With a final decision looming, City will be keen to place the midfielder in an environment that not only challenges him but accelerates his progression.
