FC Barcelona return to La Liga action as league leaders, but retaining that position will be a major challenge. They now face Atletico Madrid, arguably the most in-form team in Spain.
Diego Simeone’s men look unstoppable, and overcoming them will require a special kind of effort from Hansi Flick’s team. Fortunately, however, Barça can rely on their home supporters to help them overcome this hurdle.
This will be the third game this season to take place at the Spotify Camp Nou, which is great news for La Blaugrana. So far, the Catalan giants have been flawless at their newly reopened home stadium, with wins over Athletic Club and Deportivo Alaves.
At the moment, Barça sit at the top of the La Liga table, thanks to Real Madrid drawing their recent game against Girona. In terms of form, the Catalan giants have three wins, one draw, and one loss in their last five games.
Across those five games, Flick’s team has scored 14 goals and conceded 9. While this risky style of play has been rewarding to an extent, Atletico Madrid will certainly not make it easy for Barça to gain value from it.
Simeone’s side, for instance, has five wins from five in their recent outings. They have scored 11 goals across those games and conceded only three.
This shows the consistency and quality that Atletico Madrid possess, thanks to the revitalised form unlocked by their Argentinian coach. Thus, in almost every way, Flick’s Barcelona side needs to treat this game as a final if they truly want to retain their place at the top of the La Liga table.
