The official presentation of the new Educational Programme of the FC Porto Museum will take place on 30 May, at 10 a.m., at the Museum’s premises, in an event reserved for educators and teachers. Developed in partnership with the Faculty of Education and Psychology (FEP) of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP), through the Católica Learning Innovation Lab (CLIL), this is a validated, distinctive pedagogical project aimed at various stages of education, from pre-school to secondary school, bringing together a broad set of proposals, experiences and activities that bring the Museum’s cultural heritage closer to Formal Education through innovative Pedagogical Exploration Visits.

The collaboration between two of the city’s largest institutions – FC Porto (Museum) and the Catholic University – gave rise to a highly enriching programme for students and teachers, inspired by Museum-Based Learning principles and designed to strengthen the FC Porto Museum as a space for active and interdisciplinary learning, where every object and every story become pedagogical resources.

Designed to align the activities of the Educational Programme with the Essential Learning outcomes of each subject area, by level of education, the Profile of Students Leaving Compulsory Schooling (PASEO) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the project is structured around thematic axes that connect with the museum context: Community, Society and Citizenship; The Many Facets of Sport; and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). It includes themed visits, educational workshops and, as its main new feature, Pedagogical Exploration Visits, which make it possible to observe the Museum from an educational perspective and stimulate critical thinking through interactive and dynamic quizzes that promote analysis, reflection and decision-making.

Joana César Machado, member of FC Porto’s Board of Directors, says: “Through a pioneering educational programme, adapted to different school stages, the FC Porto Museum uses sport as a powerful teaching tool that makes it possible to establish links with different curricular areas and encourage interactive learning, promotes the fundamental values associated with sport and strengthens its emotional connection with the community”.

For Diana Soares, director of the Católica Learning Innovation Lab, “this partnership between the Portuguese Catholic University and the FC Porto Museum allowed us to jointly design a new educational programme based on innovative and immersive educational scenarios, where the Museum becomes an extension of the classroom”,

Mafalda Magalhães, director of the FC Porto Museum, highlights in the “link between culture, sport and formal education the possibility of creating more engaging, inclusive and meaningful learning experiences, awakening in students a greater sense of belonging, memory, citizenship and interdisciplinary thinking. The Museum is consolidating its role as a privileged space for knowledge, discovery and active participation”. She further adds that “the new Educational Programme reinforces the role of sports and club museums as active agents of cultural and educational mediation. Museums are increasingly being challenged to participate in the development of critical, social and creative skills. This project is a national benchmark in transforming sports heritage into a pedagogical tool in the service of education”.

Opened in 2013, the FC Porto Museum plays a unique role in preserving and sharing the history of FC Porto, while also looking at the memory of the City, the Country and the World. With a recognised high-quality Educational Service, which includes activities for all audiences, such as visits to the Museum and the Dragão Stadium or workshops, including during school holidays, the Museum is fully aligned with the traditions and values of FC Porto, as an institution deeply committed to the social and cultural development of the communities around it.
