Federico Chiesa has withdrawn through injury from Italy’s 2026 World Cup play-offs, with head coach Gennaro Gattuso calling up Bologna winger Nicolo Cambiaghi.
The Italian federation said in a statement that he was assessed on arrival at the federal technical centre and ruled out of the next two matches.

The Liverpool forward, 28, had been set for an international return after nearly two years out.
Italy face Northern Ireland on Thursday at 20:45.
If they win, they will play for a World Cup place against the winner of Wales versus Bosnia and Herzegovina.
