Hato will sign a sign a seven year contract at Stamford Bridge, and has been given permission to travel and complete his medical.

Chelsea to pay €43m for Jorrel Hato

The Blues had been locked in negotiations with Ajax trying to agree a final fee for several days, with it said Ajax were hoping to get over €50m.

However, a compromise was reached for the Dutch international, and Romano has provided an update on the final fee.

He took to X.com and said:

“Jorrel Hato has been authorized to travel to London for medical tests and then he will sign 7 year deal at Chelsea.

“Fee worth €43m plus sell-on clause.”

Hato is key signing for the Blues given the lack of back-up for Marc Cucurella, and the teenager can also provide cover at centre back if needed.

Despite his age Hato played over 100 games for Ajax, and is already a full Dutch international, meaning he brings experience with him.

Marc Cucurella to be offered new contract

With Hato now through the door, Chelsea are working on offering Cucurella a new contract as a reward for his fine form.

The 27-year-old was superb for the Blues last season as they secured Champions League qualification and won both the Conference League and Club World Cup.

Cucurella is currently under contract until 2028, and was recently linked with a move to Saudi side Al-Nassr, although those rumours were quickly shut down.

As with Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson, he’s set to be offered an extension, and the Spaniard will be brilliant for Hato to learn from.
