Femi Azeez has enjoyed a strong campaign for Millwall amid their push for promotion to the Premier League.

The Lions have not competed in the top flight of English football since 1990, with their last top six finish in the Championship coming in 2002.

Alex Neil’s side are only two points behind second place Middlesbrough, and level on points with third place Ipswich Town — albeit the Tractor Boys hold a game in hand at this stage.

Azeez has been a key figure in their rise to an automatic promotion battle, with the forward contributing eight goals and seven assists from 27 league appearances so far.

This has led to speculation over the 24-year-old’s future, with it being reported that the likes of Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Everton are all keeping tabs on him ahead of the summer market.

But Azeez has a contract with Millwall until June 2028, giving the London outfit some leverage in any potential upcoming transfer talks.

Azeez has claimed that his full focus is on the present, and that he is not thinking about the future just yet amid Millwall’s push for a place in the Premier League, along with the speculation over a possible transfer.

He believes that this season is just a precursor to further improvement, and that he is confident that we still haven’t seen the best of him yet, as he looks to end a 36 year wait for top flight football for the Lions.

"It has been a long road to get here but I'm still only 24," said Azeez, via Sky Sports.

"I've got plenty of years left in the game.

"Sometimes I do remind myself I'm not the finished product just yet, so I've got plenty of years to grow.

“I put in the work and I want to reach my potential, but also surpass my potential.

"It is exciting to think what could happen, but I don't want to look too far ahead because if you look too far ahead you can kind of live in a fantasy land.

"My mind and my mental state is just to keep grounded, keep working hard and just keep improving every day.

“That's the main thing."

Millwall lost to relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers last weekend, which ended a run of four wins in a row in the Championship.

However, despite the defeat, the Lions are still fourth in the second division table and only two points behind second place Middlesbrough.

Azeez has been crucial to their rise to a play-off place, and he has already easily surpassed last season’s total of goals and assists.

He joined the London outfit in the 2024 summer transfer window from Reading, and he registered two goals and five assists from 34 appearances in his first year at the club.

Nobody has a greater total of goals and assists in Neil’s side this term, with his tally of 15 putting him ahead of Tristan Crama, who has a total of nine.

Next up for Millwall is a trip to face third place Ipswich in a big top of the table clash on 21 March in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Femi Azeez’s Millwall future could depend on promotion push

If Millwall can gain promotion to the Premier League this season then it’s hard to imagine Azeez wanting to walk away from the Den.

He is a central part of Neil’s plans, and being a guaranteed starter at a top flight level will be hard to turn down, especially as he may not get that at the likes of Leeds or Palace.

However, if the Lions are unable to gain promotion, then a departure in the summer could be a very likely outcome.

His performances this season have been quite impressive, and he is starting to show that he has the potential to compete in the Premier League, so it’s no surprise there are so many clubs interested in his services.
