Ferland Mendy (29) missed France’s first-team training session on Sunday, however, the Real Madrid defender’s potential to participate in Tuesday’s Euro 2024 quarter-final against Spain hasn’t been compromised, according to L’Équipe.

Following Lucas Hernandez’s injury in May, Mendy, who had been out of the international picture for almost two years, earned a recall from Didier Deschamps. He beat Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne to earn a place in the Euro 2024 squad. Despite playing a minor role in the pre-tournament friendlies, it is no surprise that the Real Madrid full-back is yet to feature at Euro 2024.

Théo Hernandez remains the first choice at left-back, as expected, and it will remain that way until the end of their Euros campaign. Mendy does, however, provide crucial cover. His ability to do that was questioned when he missed first-team training on Sunday with muscular pain. However, L’Équipe understands that Mendy will be fit to face Spain on Tuesday, if needed.
