Fernando Diniz expressed optimism over Memphis staying at Corinthians and said the squad may need one to three targeted reinforcements.
The 2-0 defeat to Platense at Neo Química Arena on Wednesday closed Corinthians’ Libertadores group stage. Memphis has been released to join the Netherlands for World Cup preparations and will miss Saturday’s trip to Grêmio in the 18th round. According to ge.globo, the club will pause activities for 25 days during the 1 June to 20 July shutdown.
Memphis’s contract runs to 31 July 2026 and talks over an extension continue. Diniz said all sides want him to stay and expects a positive outcome, while the forward has also indicated he wishes to remain. Corinthians are seeking partners to help cover his wages and hope to finalise terms before the World Cup.
Diniz praised the squad but argued the priority this window is preserving the group, with up to three precise signings if finances and targets align. A transfer ban currently prevents registrations, which he expects to be lifted in time.
Several players have attracted interest and striker Yuri Alberto has said he wants to leave in the next window. The club are targeting R$ 151 million from player sales this season.
After the pause, Corinthians plan an interseason at their training centre and a friendly against Cascavel on 12 July. Their next league match has a base date of 22 July against Remo at Neo Química Arena.
