Barcelona could make one or two significant sales this summer, and one of the candidates to leave could be Ferran Torres. The 26-year-old’s place at the Spotify Camp Nou had looked secure after Robert Lewandowski departed upon the expiry of his contract, but with Karim Adeyemi and another striker poised to sign, he could be on the chopping block – especially because he has less than a year remaining on his contract.
Torres has attracted strong interest in recent weeks, although his priority is still to remain at Barcelona. Contract talks with his representatives have taken place, but these have not gone as well as both parties had hoped.
As per Jijantes FC, Gerard Romero has given an insight into the contract talks between Barcelona and Torres’ representatives, while he also revealed that Atletico Madrid are very interested in signing the Spain international.
“Ferran’s camp wants Barça to improve the player’s contract. Barça sees itself not in a position that allows improving the conditions. If he does not leave this summer, his contract must be renewed so that he does not leave for free. Atlético Madrid has always been in desperate need of him.”
As mentioned, it would be a disaster for Barcelona to lose Torres next summer for free. Thus, it would make sense to float an exit this summer in order to cash in, otherwise they may have to meet his contract demands in order to avoid him departing as a free agent.
Given that Atleti are interested in Torres, Barcelona may decide to try sneaking him into the negotiations for Julian Alvarez. Los Colchoneros have made it clear that they only want cash, but given that the Argentine striker has publicly expressed a desire to leave, it would be wise to take a reduced amount in order to secure his possible replacement.
