The French Football Federation has offered support to Wesley Fofana after he reported racist abuse on social media following Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Burnley.
Two days after Fofana denounced the abuse, the federation said in a statement on its social channels that it offered him full support and condemned the attacks in the strongest terms, that racism is a crime, not an opinion, that hate cannot be tolerated in the sport, that any shirt carries values of respect, commitment and solidarity, that targeting a player for his skin colour attacks those values, and that the pitch should remain a place of passion, pride and unity.
After the draw with Burnley, Fofana posted on Instagram screenshots of five users who had sent him racist insults in private messages.
One message used racist language and suggested he should be put in a zoo after his red card.
He has one cap for France, earned against Gibraltar in June 2023.
