This is how FIFA justified her candidacy: "The midfielder, who seems to have come out of a video game, is in the running for The Best FIFA Women's Player for the third consecutive time, which would mean an absolute record. Despite Barcelona and Spain finishing as runners-up in the Champions League and the Euro, Bonmatí received the MVP awards in both competitions. Number 14 also shone in the domestic treble victory with Barcelona."
