FIFA is in talks about bringing forward England’s World Cup last-16 match against Mexico on Sunday because of forecast thunderstorms, the Press Association understands.
The game at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico had been due to start at six pm local time, one am Monday in the UK. Claro Sports reports it has been moved to 12pm central time, seven pm BST.
FIFA has not confirmed any change and discussions are understood to be ongoing.
Adverse weather has already disrupted two matches at this World Cup. Earlier this week, Mexico’s last-32 win over Ecuador at the Azteca kicked off an hour late because of thunderstorms.
Last week, France’s 3-0 victory against Iraq in Philadelphia was delayed by more than two hours due to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
