Filipe Luís left Flamengo in early March after an 8-0 win over Madureira in the Carioca semi-final, and is currently unattached. After interest from Chelsea, Benfica are now looking at the ex-full-back.
RTI Esportes reports that he is among the candidates to replace José Mourinho, who is in talks with Real Madrid. The former Flamengo coach has gained traction behind the scenes at the Portuguese club.
Alongside Filipe Luís, Benfica are monitoring other European names. Ruben Amorim, formerly of Manchester United and Sporting, and Marco Silva, currently at Fulham, are also targets.
Benfica could be without a head coach in the coming days, as Mourinho is the main target for Real Madrid to replace Álvaro Arbeloa. He is tipped to leave the club, prompting the board to work on a new appointment.
Filipe Luís made history at Flamengo, lifting the Copa do Brasil in 2024. In 2025 he added the Campeonato Carioca, Brasileirão, Supercopa do Brasil and Libertadores.
However, his spell ended after defeats in finals, finishing runners-up in the Supercopa do Brasil to Corinthians, then losing the Recopa Sudamericana to Lanús. Now led by Leonardo Jardim, Flamengo visit Estudiantes on Wednesday (29) at 21:30 Brasília time in the third round of the Copa Libertadores.
