According to Información, Fiorentina have stepped up their bid to sign Aleix Febas, whose Elche contract expires on 30 June. The Catalan has been free since 1 January to negotiate and even sign for next season.

Their interest was evident on Saturday when a member of Fiorentina’s recruitment team watched Elche’s home win over Valencia at the Manuel Martínez Valero. AC Milan staff were also present to follow defender David Affengruber, who is contracted until 2027.

On the day, Affengruber contained Valencia’s forwards and Febas drove Elche’s attacking play, teeing up Lucas Cepeda with a precise assist. The pair were influential in the victory.

Fiorentina have greater financial clout than Elche, but their project is under strain, sitting 17th in Serie A and facing a steep UEFA Conference League quarter-final after a 3-0 first-leg loss to Crystal Palace. Refounded in 2002 after financial issues, they rebuilt and became European regulars, finishing Conference League runners-up in 2023 and 2024.

Talks over a new Febas deal remain unresolved due to a gap between the player’s demands and Elche’s offer, leaving the door open to moves such as Fiorentina. This season he has played 30 LaLiga matches and scored two goals, is the most-fouled player in the competition and a key piece for Eder Sarabia since 2023.

At 30, Febas is seeking one last major contract. While his priority has been to stay at Elche, he is unwilling to accept any terms. Other clubs are tracking him, with RCD Espanyol well placed and interest also from abroad.
