Aston Villa win UEFA Europa League

Our Red Bull Arena will host the UEFA Super Cup on 12 August 2026, marking Salzburg's first time hosting a UEFA club competition final. With Aston Villa, the newly crowned UEFA Europa League winners, the first participants are now confirmed. The English side, whom we faced at the end of the Europa League league season, have already lifted the Super Cup in 1983.

Aston Villa will therefore face the winner of the UEFA Champions League final (30 May 2026, at 18:00 CEST) between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

Incidentally, our Red Bulls could also benefit from the English side's Europa League victory! Should Aston Villa finish fifth or sixth in the Premier League this coming weekend, we would enter the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League in the play-off round (instead of qualifying round three).

Details regarding ticket sales for the 2026 Super Cup are expected to be announced by UEFA at the end of May. A specific date for the start of ticket sales has not yet been announced.

A fan festival for the general public will be set up in the heart of Salzburg's Old Town, on Residenzplatz. Visitors can expect a diverse programme with football, cultural and entertainment elements, UEFA partner activities and trophy displays. The fan festival will take place on Tuesday 11 August 2026, from 10:00 to 22:00, and on Wednesday 12 August 2026, from 10:00 to 17:00.

In addition, on the day of the final (12 August 2026), two central fan meeting points will be organised for supporters of both finalists. Kapitelplatz and Volksgarten will serve as gathering points from which fans can proceed together to the Red Bull Arena and experience a European tournament atmosphere before the match.

What is the UEFA Super Cup?

The UEFA Super Cup is the traditional contest between the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the winner of the UEFA Europa League.

From 1973 to 1999, the winner of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League initially played against the winner of the Cup Winners' Cup, and later, from 2000 onwards, against the winner of the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League.

If the score is tied after regular time, there is no extra time - instead, the match goes directly to a penalty shootout. The last time this happened was in 2025 when Paris Saint-Germain overcame a 0-2 deficit against Tottenham Hotspur in Udine, winning on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

The unique logo was developed in collaboration with UEFA and puts Salzburg, the host city, front and centre. Hohensalzburg Fortress, seen from the distinctive perspective of the Bürgermeisterloch, serves as the inspiration. Clean lines and a dynamic design combine cultural heritage with innovative spirit. Colorful accents convey sporting enthusiasm and underscore the UEFA Super Cup as a European highlight.

In the lead-up to the UEFA Super Cup, a Trophy Experience will take place at several locations in Salzburg from 29 July to 5 August. The focus will be on the presentation of the official trophies of the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Super Cup. The Trophy Experience brings the international character of the competition to the public early on and creates lasting impressions and memorable experiences centered around the three iconic trophies.
