First world problems and trying to get to Brighton…and back

When my alarm went off at 4,15am for our trip to Brighton, I was well looking forward to it.
After yet another unnecessary international break…
So I jumped out my cot and decided a lucky clean shave was just what we needed to bring back three points to the north east. Wrong. Shaving foam bottle wasn’t working properly, so it was a rough shave time.
Now, that was one little inconvenience I could handle.
So anyway, pick up Phil T en route to the station, just leaving his estate (Chapel Park) and I say to Phil, you did remember the train tickets (as it was a split train journey on Saturday and you need physical tickets) didn’t you…?
Doh, what tickets?
Err, the ones I gave you for safekeeping when I picked up our Bournemouth train tickets.
Whoops. We turn around, pick train tickets up and soon are on the 6am out of toon central.
Just before Peterborough the train comes to a juddering stop and it’s announced we’ve stopped for animals on the track, so we’re delayed (I start to think we all know now where this tale is going now…).
Get to London and meet me pal Sean Limer who for some reason has turned up treed up.
Finally arrive at Brighton and go for a few light sherries before the game (Why does everyone who likes an early bevy take their pups to the pub and I mean every pub. Must be a Brighton thing).
But instead of getting the free train to the match like my other meet up pal Nigerian Steve, Sean decides we need to get a taxi to the ground, so we can have another light sherry.
Brilliant idea until we got onto the motorway approaching the ground to find a massive traffic jam due to Monk’s bus breaking down.
So we get to the match 15 minutes late (We weren’t at the races first half but second half was just a cracking game of football that I enjoyed, unfortunately we lost).
Plenty on here have given a much better match analysis.
So when leaving the Amex there is a poxy little train station. In his wisdom Phil T decided to circumnavigate the queues.
Let’s go back into the ground (bars are open after the game at the Amex).
Stupendous idea Phil T. We end up missing our connection back to King’s Cross and just make it for our 8pm train home.
(PS: Anyone reading this and thinking ‘first world problems’ – yup, you are spot on. Just because I’ve been to Brighton on Saturday doesn’t make me a Queen. A drama one though? Oh yes.)
