Bernardo Silva has long been one of Manchester City’s most decisive figures, the kind of player who knits together possession phases and drags his team through tight games when patterns break down. Yet for all his influence, his future beyond 2026 now looks increasingly uncertain.
Reports circulating this week suggest that Barcelona and Juventus are positioning themselves early. Their admiration is no secret. Sporting director Deco has “already started contact with the representatives of the Portuguese playmaker” with discussions centred on a long-term project at Camp Nou.

It was Caught Offside who first outlined the emerging dynamics, adding that “Deco sees Silva’s technical range as an ideal fit” for Hansi Flick’s system. Juventus remain active in the conversation too, though Silva’s current £300,000 weekly wage presents a sizeable financial obstacle. One source noted that a deal would only work “unless the player accepted a pay cut.”
Saudi Arabia, however, changes the landscape. Al Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al Nassr are allegedly preparing offers that dwarf European packages. Contracts on the table reportedly include “weekly wages of roughly £500,000 plus a multi-million signing bonus,” with Al Nassr framing his arrival as “a marquee signing in the post-Ronaldo era.”
City are aware of the situation but “there has been no public rush to extend his deal.” For a footballer so central to their tactical flexibility, that silence is intriguing. Silva remains priceless in matches that demand intelligence over chaos. He can spin between midfield and forward lines in a heartbeat, covering two roles without betraying either.
The club now face three options. They can table an improved contract and secure him beyond 2026. They can sanction a sale in January while a significant fee is still possible. Or they allow him to see out the current deal and walk away for nothing.
Caught Offside put it simply, “Silva has a decision to make about his future.” That decision may not be financial, at least not entirely. Barcelona offers heritage. Juventus offers centrality. Saudi Arabia offers transformation. City offers familiarity and further silverware.
There is no malice in whichever path he takes, only different definitions of fulfilment.
From a Manchester City supporter’s perspective this is a crossroads nobody is emotionally ready for. Bernardo Silva is a pillar of this side. His importance often goes unnoticed until a game drifts without control. Fans sense that he is still operating at his peak and losing him now would feel premature.
If he were to join Barcelona, most would wish him well. It fits his aesthetic, his temperament and his footballing IQ. A move to Saudi Arabia would be harder to digest. Not because of judgement, but because it would pull him out of sight when he still belongs on the main stage of European nights.
The best outcome for many would be a renewed contract with flexibility built in. One final charge at more Premier League titles and another crack at the Champions League, then reassess. Legends are remembered for their exits as much as their arrivals. Bernardo Silva has earned the right to write his own ending, but Manchester City should fight to remain part of it.
