Five Marseille players could miss Newcastle United match as official injury update released | OneFootball

An official update from the Ligue 1 club has revealed that five Marseille players could miss the Champions League match against Newcastle United.

This official medical update (see below) released ahead of Friday night’s game against OGC Nice.

The Marseille players having an extra day of rest and recovery compared to the Newcastle United players, who play on Saturday at home to Manchester City.

Marseille are having very different experiences in the Champions League and their domestic league.

Roberto De Zerbi and his players having lost three of their four Champions League matches, however, they are currently only two points behind Ligue 1 leaders PSG.

Always a balance when you have Champions League commitments as well, whichever domestic league you compete in.

The good news for Newcastle United is that with Marseille challenging at the top of Ligue 1, you can’t imagine that Roberto De Zerbi will play anything other than his first choice team on Friday night.

‘Olympique de Marseille provides an update on the medical situation of several players currently receiving treatment:

Amir MURILLO ➤ Muscle injury in his left thigh. The player is following an appropriate treatment protocol and will be reassessed in the coming days.

Facundo MEDINA ➤ Sprained right ankle. Treatment is underway and progress will be monitored daily.

Nayef AGUERD ➤ Onset of pubalgia. Specific treatment has been implemented to limit symptoms and support a gradual return to play. Regular communication is taking place with the medical staff of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

Hamed TRAORÉ ➤ Muscle injury in the right thigh. The player is benefiting from an individualized rehabilitation program.
