Excluding Diogo Costa, Porto have released nine senior players to their national teams, and five face decisive matches that could increase the club’s presence at the next World Cup. According to O Jogo, these play-off ties fall in the current international window.
Poland, featuring Bednarek, Kiwior and Pietuszewski, face Albania on Sunday. Victory would set up a play-off final against Ukraine or Sweden.
Deniz Gul is in the Türkiye squad in a similar position, with Romania up first. A win would lead to a decider with Slovakia or Kosovo.
Denmark, with Froholdt involved, meet North Macedonia, and if they win they would play Czechia or Ireland.
Zaidu, Pablo Rosario, Fofana and Prpic are the other Porto players in action. The Ivory Coast international faces the toughest travel, playing in the United States against South Korea then in Liverpool against Scotland.
Zaidu has two friendlies with Iran and Jordan, rescheduled to Antalya, Türkiye, due to the situation in the Middle East, which should ease his return. In principle, all are set to be back well before the Famalicão match, scheduled for Saturday the fourth.
